What Is Medicine (As a Career)?

The practice of medicine is the science of healing by means of the application of scientific and technological knowledge on the subject of nature. It is also called as healthcare or health science. A medicine program is necessary for those who want to pursue a career in medicine. The three major fields of medicine are medicine (phytology, dentistry and nursing) and surgery (including both major and minor surgery), pathology (investigative and diagnostic sciences including pathological pathology, pharmacology and diagnostics) and biomedicine (emergent sciences that deal with the life sciences). There are also other specialized fields like pediatrics, internal medicine, nutrition, pharmacy, infectious diseases, and others.

This discipline includes a number of specializations. General practitioners are responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries and illnesses, and plan the patients’ care. Health counselors are involved in the assessment of the patient’s current health status and the future health status. Medical Assistants (MAs) give basic assistance to doctors in providing care, promoting health and educating patients and families about their medical conditions and their proper care. Social workers offer counseling and help families and individuals cope with health issues.

Doctor of Philosophy

A PhD in Health and Medicine is intended to enhance one’s knowledge on health and medicine and to improve one’s personal and professional life. One can attain this through online education or traditional teaching. Online learning includes lectures, discussions, seminars, audio and video materials, and interactive games. Lectures given online are sometimes of lengthy duration and may cover a wide variety of health matters. While online lectures and materials have some similarities with traditional courses, they differ in many aspects, such as flexibility of scheduling, convenience of learning, flexibility of delivery, ability to self-tailor the course, and the use of electronic medical records.

Public health is concerned with the overall health of the community as a whole. It is also related to the good health of the individual within a community. A Public Health Specialist teaches about the causes, prevention, treatment and prevention of diseases. He or she disseminates information on healthy living, nutrition, family planning, practices for dealing with stress and other physical disorders. A good health specialist promotes good health through education, awareness and prevention. The promotion of a healthy lifestyle through a good diet and regular exercise is essential to achieving public health.

Essential components

There are three essential components that include physical well-being, mental health and lifestyle. A student of medicine should be equipped with knowledge on all these three aspects and be able to apply them effectively for the purpose of achieving good health. The three components of health are defined as physical health, emotional health and social or environmental health. Health professionals provide a holistic approach to all aspects of physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Medicine helps to alleviate physical illnesses as well as mental illnesses or vice versa. It prevents or treats diseases that would have otherwise led to death. With proper diagnosis, medicine helps people lead normal lives free from disability. Through medication, medicine helps reduce anxiety, depression, drug dependency and suicidal tendencies. It is also instrumental in providing relief from physical pain, disability, deformity and other maladies.
